Moriches, NY, March 16, 2023 – Moriches Elementary School recently celebrated their annual WARM Week – an acronym for “We Are Reading More,” a fun five-day celebration. This year’s theme was, “Reading at Moriches is Magical!” Students and staff dressed up in a special theme each day of the week! During WARM Week, the school community also came together and collected approximately 100 pairs of new warm socks to donate to local relief agencies such as Colonial Youth and Family Services and Nana’s House to help their neighbors in need.

WARM Week kicked off on Monday, February 27, with a Disney Mickey Mouse theme – students and staff donned red and black clothing, and others added mouse ears as an accessory! Tuesday’s theme was superhero shirts; followed by “Wacky Tacky Wednesday,” in which students and staff were encouraged to wear mismatched or crazy clothes; Thursday’s theme was wearing a hat or special headgear to demonstrate how Moriches is “all ears about reading!” Then on Thursday evening, Moriches hosted a fun and exciting literacy night with book read-alouds by teachers and administrators, as well as arts-and-crafts, book giveaways, snacks and more! Friday closed out the week with a “Belle of the Ball” theme in which students and staff had the opportunity to dress up as their favorite Disney character or in Disney-themed clothing.

It was a great week at Moriches to celebrate reading!
