Westbury, NY - March 18, 2014 - Memorable music from the “silver screen” arranged in the four-part harmony style called “barbershop” will featured as part of evening and matinee presentations by The Long Island Harmonizers chorus and quartets, April 26 and 27 at Seaford H.S. Barbershop offerings sung by members of the school's chorus will also be showcased at the organization’s 64th Annual Show entitled “Reel to Real Barbershop.” The Saturday performance at the school (1575 Seamans Neck Road) begins at 8:07 pm, and the Sunday afternoon show is to start at 3:07pm. Old-time favorites will be sung as well. As in previous years, a portion of the Annual Show proceeds will be redirected to worthy Long Island charities.
All tickets to the 2014 shows available at the door will be priced at $15 for regular admission. Cost for seniors and students if payment is received in advance is $13 (check the Chapter’s website www.longislandharmonizers.org to order). For additional information call 516-208-3483.
"Motto of our 22,000-member Barbershop Harmony Society is ‘Keep the Whole World Singing,’ notes Hal Verity, 2014 Show Chairman,” and the outstanding hits from movie musicals have unquestionably done their part to foster that throughout the years. We will apply our special barbershop art form in singing some of those great melodies.”
The nonprofit Long Island Harmonizers chorus under the direction of Maurice Debar, rehearses Tuesday evenings at Winthrop Hall, Church of the Advent, 555 Advent Street, in Westbury from 8 until 10:30 pm. Those interested in joining the local Nassau Mid-Island Chapter are welcome to come and listen and, if they wish, apply for membership with a simple audition.
