AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT SUNDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: Nassau, Suffolk, from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NYS Police are currently investigating a deadly crash that occurred overnight and resulted in the death of a teenager, with another teen being hospitalized.

New York State Police are currently investigating a deadly crash on Long Island that occurred overnight and resulted in the death of a teenager, with another teen being hospitalized.

The incident happened in Babylon at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, on the westbound Southern State Parkway between exits 36 and 37. According to a preliminary investigation, a 16-year-old was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima westbound when the vehicle veered off the road and collided with trees and brush on the north shoulder.

At the accident site, the 17-year-old who was in the front passenger seat lost their life, while the name and gender of the victim have not been disclosed. The driver, on the other hand, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition.
 
Following the incident, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit all arrived at the scene to investigate.
 
The investigation into the fatal crash is still underway, and the state police are appealing to any eyewitnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward and contact 631-756-3300.
