AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Alba Alonso of Bay Shore was allegedly driving while intoxicated with her two children when she crashed in Brentwood, Cops say.

Suffolk County Police have arrested Alba Alonso of Bay Shore for DWI with two children in the vehicle after she was involved in a motor vehicle crash in Brentwood.

Brentwood , NY - March 20, 2017 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bay Shore woman for driving while intoxicated with two children in the vehicle after she was involved in a motor vehicle crash in Brentwood on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at approximately 6:05 p.m.
 
Alba Alonso was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner east on Candlewood Road when she apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb causing the vehicle to overturn at approximately 6:05 p.m.
    
Alfonso and the two children, ages 3 and 1, were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries.
 
Third Squad detectives arrested and charged Alonso, 26, of Bay Shore, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Alonso will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 20.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.  The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on this motor vehicle crash is asked to contact detectives in the Third Squad at 631- 854-8352
