AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The Fourth Squad reports two arrests for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 7:08 P.M. in Oceanside.

Oceanside, NY - March 24, 2014 - The Fourth Squad reports two arrests for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 7:08 P.M. in Oceanside.

According to detectives, Officers from the Fourth Precinct observed Kenneth Smith (pictured right), 38, of 41 Fifth Street, Valley Stream pull his car into the driveway of 482 Pearl Street.  Benedict P. Lindsley, 39, who resides there, came out of the home.  A drug transaction was performed before both men got into the car and traveled eastbound on Atlantic Avenue.  Officers pulled the car over on Clark Avenue after discovering it had a suspended registration.  Smith’s daughter, a minor, was in the back seat of the car, with no child restraint seat, at the time of the incident.  Smith was found to be in possession of three bags of heroin and placed under arrest without incident. Lindsley was also placed under arrest at the scene.  The child was picked up at the scene by a family member.

Smith is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Endangering the Welfare of a child and several vehicle and traffic law misdemeanors and violations including rear passenger under 10 without a restraint.  Lindsley is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  They will be arraigned on Monday, March 24, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
