Northwell Health is committing to transform its health records to a totally digital process, an initiative that will begin rolling out in phases starting in 2025.

In an announcement, the healthcare system said it was partnering with Epic, a medical records software company, to provide one patient record across every Northwell venue of care.

Northwell is New York State’s largest health system, with 21 hospitals and about 900 outpatient facilities.

The new records system is a huge project for Northwell that will take years to roll out completely, according to Joseph Moscola, PA, executive vice president of Enterprise Services at Northwell.

“We are at the start of an exciting digital transformation journey, which includes utilizing Google Cloud to discover data insights and refining our customer relationship management to create personalized experiences,” he said.

The new health record system will not only provide one patient record across internal departments, digitizing will help reduce the burden on administrators and streamline workflows.

“This is a significant foundational decision to simplify our digital ecosystem in order to enhance the connectedness of Northwell’s integrated system delivery and bring joyful experiences at every touchpoint,” said Sophy Lu, senior vice president and chief information officer at Northwell.
