Pedestrian Killed on the LIE After Being Struck by USPS Tractor Trailer

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian last evening.

Update - April 2nd, 2015 - Stephen Puleo, 52, of Melville, has been identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed on the Long Island Expressway in Melville last night.
 
Huntington, NY - April 1st, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian last evening.
 
A male pedestrian was walking westbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 49, when he was struck by a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer, driven by Russell A. Davenport of Northport at 10:30 p.m. Davenport, 62, who remained at the scene and attempted to assist the victim, was uninjured.
 
The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
 
A safety check of the tractor trailer was conducted at the scene and the investigation is continuing.
 
Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252. All calls will be kept confidential.
