According to detectives, a multi-car accident occurred on the Nassau Expressway between Burnside Ave and Peninsula Blvd.

NCPD reports a fatal vehicular accident in Lawrence.

Lawrence, NY - April 5, 2018 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Tuesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:40 A.M. in Lawrence.
 
According to detectives, a multi-car accident occurred on the Nassau Expressway (Rt.878) between Burnside Ave and Peninsula Blvd. Involved in this accident were 5 cars which included a total of 9 occupants. One of the vehicles caught fire and the 2 occupants inside perished. In addition to those victims, there were 5 with injuries that were removed to area hospitals and 2 occupants refused medical attention at the scene.
 
Zakiyyah Steward, 25, of Brooklyn and Rahmel Watkins, 35, of Brooklyn were arrested for the above incident.  Both defendants will be arraigned Thursday, April 5, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
Defendant Steward is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by the Combine Influence of Drugs/Alcohol and any Drug/Drugs, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, DWI and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.
 
Defendant Watkins is charged with DWI.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
