Considered one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals, Wild & Scenic combines stellar filmmaking, beautiful cinematography and first-rate storytelling. Attendees enjoy award-winning films about nature, community activism, adventure and conservation, including many that relate to Seatuck Environmental Association’s work on Long Island. Long Islanders are invited to reserve tickets now for an entertaining evening of food & drink, live music, raffle prizes, compelling conversation and, of course, stunning films.
The Wild & Scenic event, which will be held at the historic Scully Estate in Islip, will feature a wide variety of short films that will allow attendees to travel the world in an evening – from the bottom of the planet in “ANTARCTICA: The Intersection of Technology and Climate Action” to the top of the world in “Giant Sequoias - Yosemite Nature Notes.” The festival includes adventure films like “Iridescent,” about world class wildlife photographers on safari in Brazil's Pantanal region, and science-based films such as “Eco-Hack!” in which biologists and engineers work together to save the threatened Mojave desert tortoise population. Other films, including “Black Like Plastic—Nature, Culture, and People,” explore the role of education in expanding the base of community scientists.
The festival is a natural extension of Seatuck’s mission to conserve Long Island wildlife and the environment. Seatuck engages in wildlife conservation projects and education across Long Island. Efforts include protecting and preserving migrating shorebird habitats, river otters and migratory fish. Hosting the Wild & Scenic Film Festival complements the organizations’ expanding conservation efforts and inspires Long Islanders to get involved and take action.

Originating in Nevada City, California, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival celebrates the beauty and wonder of our natural world and inspires audiences everywhere to take action to protect it. Originally a fundraiser for SYRCL (the South Yuba River Citizens League), the festival’s namesake is in celebration of SYRCL’s landmark victory to receive “Wild & Scenic” status for 39 miles of the South Yuba River in 1999. Its expansion into The Wild & Scenic On Tour film festival is building a network of grassroots organizations connected by a common goal of using film to inspire activism, of which Seatuck is the Long Island regional partner. With the support of National Partners, such as Peak Design, Earthjustice, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, and MiiR, the festival can reach an even larger audience.
Concerned citizens worldwide know the urgency of the many environmental crises facing our planet today, but most do not know how they can contribute to the fight. Now, attendees on Long Island can support their own local advocates for the environment by attending Seatuck’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival on April 29th. Proceeds from the festival go directly to fostering the science, advocacy and education that are crucial to conserving Long Island’s wildlife.
