East Islip man arrested for 'Elderly Scam' worth $420,000 in Woodmere
Major Case Bureau Detectives report the arrest of an East Islip man for an “Elderly Scam” incident that occurred Monday, January 6, 2020 through Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Woodmere.
According to Fraud and Forgery Detectives, Defendant Kenneth B. McConnell of 156 Jefferson Street, received financial payment from a 61-year-old female victim for plumbing, HVAC and electrical work that was never performed.
During the investigation it was determined Defendant McConnell removed jewelry from the defendant’s home and sold it to a local pawn shop. The defendant also deposited fraudulent checks into his personal bank account, belonging to the victim from her account without her knowledge or permission.
The total value taken from the victim is approximately $420,000 dollars. Defendant McConnell is charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 4th Degree (Attempt), Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Identity Theft 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, April 7, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
