Port Jefferson, NY - April 8th, 2013 - The Rotary Club of Port Jefferson and John T. Mather Memorial Hospital are seeking donations of used CDs to help build a music library to aid the healing process of patients through music therapy.
On July 1, 2012, the Mather Hospital Transitional Care Unit implemented a music therapy program in an effort to relax patients and improve pain management. The music is played directly after therapy, before the CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machine is placed on the resident and any other time the patient feels they are in pain. The focus is on the post-orthopedic population although many more residents have benefitted from the interventions as well.
Mather Hospital Director of Nursing for the TCU, Deborah Schafmayer states, “We are in the early stages of data collection, but are anticipating this to be a success based on resident reports alone. Our goal is to be able to diminish a resident’s pain level, and enable them to go for a longer period of time between pharmacological interventions.”
If you are looking to get rid of any old and unwanted CDs, please consider donating to this worthy cause. Donations will be accepted beginning April 8th through May 13th with drop boxes at the following locations.
