Selden, NY - April 10th, 2015 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs while he had his 7-year old child in the vehicle in Selden this afternoon.
Sandro Vargas was operating his 1990 Buick eastbound on Middle Country Road with his 7-year old son in the vehicle when he attempted to go around another vehicle, but sideswiped the vehicle in the rear at approximately 1:30 p.m. Investigation by Sixth Precinct Patrol Officer Greg Sandbichler revealed Vargas was under the influence of drugs and was placed under arrest.
The 7-year-old boy was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital complaining of pain, and was later released to a family member. There were no other injuries.
Sixth Squad detectives charged Vargas 41, of Northridge Dr. Coram, with Aggravated Driving While Impaired by drugs with a child, a Felony under Leandra’s Law, as well as Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
Vargas is scheduled for arraignment at First District court in Central Islip on April 10th.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
