DIY Your ‘do or Let it Grow? Long Islanders Chime in on Haircuts
Of all the services that were not deemed essential, barber shops and beauty salons are probably up there on the list of places people wish they could have open - at least just for one haircut for themselves in the next few weeks.
We asked people what they are doing about haircuts while sheltering-in-place.
Here is what some people said on Facebook:
“Let the man buns and messy buns up! We're all in quarantine, who are we trying to impress?” posted Di Ana.
She also wanted people not to take matters into their own hands.
“It's a couple more weeks,” she said. “Don't do a chop job on yourself which will cost you more to get fixed later. And be extra generous and kind to your local barbers and hairstylists when they all open up again.”
Joanne Posillico wrote that there are more important things to worry about.
“It's hair people, let it grow (out) it's not a life and death need to have a haircut or dyed.”
Mary Lura is lucky.
“Do my own,” she wrote. “I’m a hairdresser.”
Some people said they haven’t given it a thought yet and others are taking it all in stride.
“We’re all in the same boat so who cares,” Chris Kiernan said.
“Can all turn into hippies,” wrote Margaret Polizzi.
Other people had ideas on how to tackle the problem, including old standbys like the bowl cut and the flowbee (which is amazingly still for sale.)
So you don’t have to we looked at the FAQ page and picked out these burning questions:
- Will the Flowbee work with any vacuum? The Flowbee works with 90% of those vacuums with a hose attachment capability. They say it's also great for central vacuums.
- Can my children use the Flowbee? Yes, with adult supervision.
- I have an older Flowbee unit, are replacement parts still available? You can get parts and support for your Flowbee up to ten years after purchase.
What’s your mane management strategy while under quarantine? Are you worried, did you DIY your do, or are you like Matt Jantz?
“Shaved everything off and starting from scratch,” he said.
