County Exec Curran Reopens Renowned Red Course for 107th Season
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has announced that The Red Course, one of three 18-hole, legendary golf courses at Eisenhower Park, is now open for its 107th season. The course is open Tuesdays – Sundays from 5:30am to 6:00pm until December 6, 2021. Golfers can now reserve tee-times on www.nassaucountyny.gov/golf. Eisenhower’s White and Blue courses remain open year-round, weather permitting.
“Nassau is home to some of the finest public golf courses in the country - many of which saw an increase in rounds last year as golf was one of few sports that could be played safely at the height of the pandemic,” said County Executive Laura Curran. “The reopening of the historic Red Course adds to the County’s ample opportunities for golfers – part of what makes Nassau a great place to live, work and play. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a rookie or a professional, I invite you to tee off on this championship course.”
The Red Course has a storied history, having been designed by prominent golf architect Devereux Emmet in 1914 and having hosted Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) championships as far back as 1926. More recently, the Red course played host to the PGA Tour’s Commerce Bank Championship.
In addition, the County Executive announced a new Short Game Practice Area slated to open in the park by the end of April. The newly constructed practice area consists of three target greens, three different styles of sand traps and two small fairways. It will allow players to practice shots ranging from chipping the ball a few yards, all the way to pitches up to 45 yards. It offers three different bunker designs resembling what they would face out on the Red, White, or Blue courses at Eisenhower.
The practice area will be limited to ten players at one time. A one-hour practice time will be imposed if players are waiting to use facility.
Nassau County’s golf facilities will continue to abide by all health and safety guidelines outlined by New York State and CDC.
