Massapequa, NY - April 17th, 2014 - Seventh Squad detectives report the details of two arrests for robbery and petit larceny that occurred in Massapequa on Wednesday, 04/16/14 at 7:00 P.M.
According to detectives, a Seventh Precinct Police officer, while in Walmart located at 200 Sunrise Mall, on an unrelated shoplifting arrest, observed Gregory Insardi, 26, of 226 N. Virginia Ave., North Massapequa and Melanie Hlapatsos, 23, of 15 10th Ave., South Farmingdale, conceal a total of six WII controllers in his waistband and her shopping bag and then exit the store. The officer along with store security stopped the defendants. Defendant Hlapatsos complied with security and was escorted to the security office. Defendant Insardi refused to comply with the officer’s directions and began flailing his arms in an aggressive manner resisting arrest, causing the officer to sustain a laceration to his finger. Also, the store security officer sustained contusions to his hand during the struggle. Both defendants were found to be in possession of Heroin at the time of their arrests. The proceeds were recovered.
Insardi is being charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Hlapatsos is being charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Insarti will be arraigned on Thursday, 04/17/14 and Hlapatsos will be arraigned on Wednesday, 04/30/14, both in First District Court, Hempstead.
