The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of an Elmont woman for Menacing that occurred in Elmont.
According to detectives, on March 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m., the defendant, Kari B. Fletcher, while driving her black BMW X5 at a dangerous speed and weaving, southbound on Elmont Road did pass the victim’s vehicle. When the victim and defendant stopped at a traffic light at Elmont Road and Linden Boulevard, an argument ensued. The defendant then pulled her vehicle in front of the victim’s vehicle in a manner that prevented the victim from leaving. The defendant then exited her vehicle brandishing a hammer and verbally threatened the victim. The victim was in fear for her safety, and the safety of her 8 year old daughter, who was in the back seat.
The defendant then fled the scene eastbound on Linden Boulevard. No injuries were reported. On April 10, 2019 at 11:35 a.m. defendant Kari B. Fletcher became irate while waiting on the drive through line at Checkers, located at 600 Hempstead Turnpike. The defendant reached over to the passenger side of her vehicle and grabbed a silver hammer with black handle, and waved it at the victim in a threatening manner, making the victim fear for her safety. The defendant then exited her vehicle and approached the front of the store, while still holding the hammer, and began yelling at the victim and witnesses who had locked themselves inside the restaurant for safety. The defendant fled the scene before officers arrived. No injuries were reported.
On April 14, 2019, at 11:30 p.m. the investigation led to the arrest of defendant, Kari B. Fletcher at her Elmont home. The defendant is charged two counts of Menacing 2nd Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree. The defendant will be arraigned on Monday, April 15, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
