AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Man Who Raped Cab Driver Last December to Be Sentenced

A Middle Island man who sexually assaulted a female taxi driver last December will be sentenced tomorrow in Riverhead, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Francisco Barrios plead guilty to raping a female taxi driver last December. He will be sentenced by Judge Barbara Kahn on April 20, 2016.

Riverhead, NY - April 19, 2016 - A Middle Island man who sexually assaulted a female taxi driver last December will be sentenced tomorrow in Riverhead, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Francisco Barrios pleaded guilty on March 21 to Rape in the First Degree.

On December 1, 2015 a female taxi driver picked up Barrios at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. During the trip, Barrios beat and strangled the woman causing her to crash the taxi into a fence on Mount Sinai-Coram Road in Mount Sinai.  The defendant then pulled the driver into the back seat and raped her.

Barrios will be sentenced to 24 years’ incarceration and 20 years post release supervision by Judge Barbara Kahn. The court calendar will be called at 9:30 am.

Be advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
