CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Cops Seeking Car Thief that Struck in Merrick

A male subject entered an unoccupied BMW X7 that was left running and fled with the vehicle, police say.

The Seventh Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 7:14 am in Merrick. 
 
According to detectives, a male subject was dropped off by a dark gray SUV in front of a Girard Place residence and entered an unoccupied BMW X7 that was left running. The male suspect then fled with the vehicle southbound on Girard Place.  A short time later, the BMW was left abandoned and recovered by police in the westbound lane near exit 36 on the Long Island Expressway.
 
 
The subject is described as a male black wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
