After completing renovations at the LIRR station parking lot, the Town of Huntington is ready for the next step in improvements.

“We anticipate moving forward on more commuter infrastructure upgrades at the Huntington train station with recently approved grant funding,” said Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth.

Earlier this month officials announced $4 million in funding for infrastructure improvements had been authorized by New York State for use by the town.

In 2018, the funds were earmarked from a State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) grant to renovate the north and south parking lots, replace the elevator in the north parking garage, and structural concrete repairs for the west footbridge to the north parking garage all at the Huntington LIRR train station. The town received the authorization to proceed from New York State on the reimbursable improvements on April 5 of this year.

That grant was part of over $11 million in funds appropriated for improvements to Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor LIRR stations.

Of that, $7.35 million dollars was earmarked for a new 150-stall parking structure at the Cold Spring Harbor LIRR train station.
