A zombie home in East Setauket that was demolished earlier this month will be preserved for open space, according to a statement released by the Town of Brookhaven. The vacant house at 40 Dyke Road was owned by the State of New York. Demolition was handled by the Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management staff.

Brookhaven Town Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, who represents the region where the house stood, commended Brookhaven Town’s Law Department for their efforts to move the demolition forward, protect the environment and improve the quality of life.

“This is an example of what I call negative development,” he said. “There are places where preservation and conservation are important, and this is one of them.”
