AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NCPD: Fatal Vehicular Accident in Levittown

A senior pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on the north side of Hempstead Turnpike.

Levittown, NY - April 22, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred at 5:45 am in Levittown on April 22, 2014.
 
According to Detectives, victim Robert Chapman Sr., 81, exited the bus stop on the north side of Hempstead Turnpike walking to the south side just west of Gardiners Avenue. The victim crossed the first and second lanes, as he entered the third lane he was struck by a 1991 Chevrolet Geo Prism driven by defendant James Taggart, 43, of 49 Cove Lane Levittown.  The victim was pronounced at scene. The defendant’s vehicle was impounded for safety inspections. The investigation is ongoing. 
 
Defendant Taggart is charged with DWI and will be arraigned on April 23, 2014 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
