Four Things You Can Do To Celebrate Earth Day

Come celebrate Earth Day at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Take part in their Hands-On Science Zone featuring three kid-friendly experiments that show how important water is to life on Earth. More than 135 state parks, historic sites and public lands host “I Love My Park Day.” Registration for 2019 is now open here. There are a total of 20 state parks on Long Island participating in “I Love My Park Day,” held the first Saturday in May. Thousands of volunteers participate to help clean up park lands and beaches, plant trees and gardens, restore trail and wildlife habitats, remove invasive species, and help work on various site improvement projects.

 

Learn more and help wild birds and animals on Long Island. The Huntington- Oyster Bay Audubon Society hosts monthly meetings at the CSH Library. Volunteers can also check out one of their many programs. Nature lovers can also check out the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audobon Center in Oyster Bay, the oldest songbird sanctuary in the U.S. Want to get your children involved? Sign them up for their Summer Sanctuary Adventures or participate yourself with Volunteers for Wildlife located in Locust Valley, where you can sponsor your very own animal.

 

Celebrate Mother Earth and learn how you can help keep our seas free from debris at Cornell Cooperative Extension 2nd annual Earth Day program. The day will include a lesson on marine debris and how we can make a difference; beach clean-up at Asharoken Beach in Northport; an evaluation of what students discovered and hands-on time with live local marine animals that are affected by pollution.
