NCPD: Hempstead Man Arrested for Allegedly Driving Drunk with 3 Children in Vehicle

The Garden City Police Department reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for DWI – Leandra’s Law on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 9:57 P.M. in Garden City.
 
According to Police, David Interiano Trinidad, 42, of Hempstead was observed by officers operating a 2003 Nissan four door sedan. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Franklin Avenue while failing to maintain its lane. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on Franklin Avenue near 2nd Street. A subsequent investigation was conducted and defendant David Interiano Trinidad was placed under arrest without incident. The vehicle’s passengers included three children, ages 15, 14 and 8 years old that were all unrestrained without seat belts. The children were released into the custody of their mother.
 
Defendant David Interiano Trinidad is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, three counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra Law, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and multiple VTL violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, April 22, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
