AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Woman Arrested in Westbury for Vehicular Assault, Heroin Possession

Westbury, NY- April 23rd, 2014 - The Third Squad reports the details of an arrest for Vehicular Assault that occurred on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:10 AM in Westbury.

According to detectives, a 45 year old male victim was driving a 2009 work van southbound on Brush Hollow Road at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive when he collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by defendant Ethel Mae Edwards, 43, of 226 Garden Street, New Cassel.  The victim was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated with the assistance of Nassau County Police Department Emergency Service Unit and Westbury Fire Department. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.  Two substances believed to be heroin and crack cocaine were found inside the defendants’ vehicle.  The defendant was placed under arrest at scene and was also transported to a local hospital where she was admitted for treatment of her injuries.

Edwards is being charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Control Substance 7th Degree.  She will be arraigned as soon as practical.
