Stony Brook, NY - April 25, 2018 - ‘Elvis Presley: The Searcher’ director Thom Zimny will be Tom Needham’s special guest this week on WUSB’s ‘The Sounds of Film.’ The interview will be part of an extensive radio special featuring the film music of Elvis Presley.
 
HBO’s ‘Elvis Presley: The Searcher’ is a two-part documentary which tells the incredible story of a young boy from Tupelo who went on to become one of the most important figures in music history. Zimny’s film uniquely explores the incredible range of influences that helped shape Elvis’ revolutionary sound. It also offers an amazing look into the legendary Graceland, and utilizes countless photos and film from the private collections of people around the world.
 
‘Elvis Presley: The Searcher’ features more than 20 primary source interviews with musicians, engineers, producers and artists who knew Elvis.  The movie offers insightful commentary from Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zanes and Robbie Robertson. In addition, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready delivers a powerful musical score that beautifully blends with numerous Elvis songs.
 
Thom Zimny is a respected director known for his Bruce Springsteen documentaries including ‘Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run,’ ‘The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town,’ and ‘The Ties That Bind.’ He is currently working on a film about Johnny Cash.
