A fully renovated movie theater is set to reopen in May when South Bay Cinemas finally begin showing movies again after years of construction. Reviving the five-screen theater at 495 Montauk Highway in West Babylon has been a long journey but the new owners are hopeful to begin showing movies again next month.
A Facebook post on the South Bay Cinemas page alerted fans of the old theater that about 4-6 weeks before they open they will announce that they are going to interview for staff.
They also answered a couple of common questions about the new moviehouse. They will have online ticket sales and they will host birthday party and theater rentals when they’re ready.
The original South Bay Cinema opened in 1967 with one screen, playing El Dorado starring John Wayne, according to cinematreasures.org. The theater became a trio in 1975 and by 1991 it had five screens.
In 2016 it closed for renovations.
According to Newsday, the owners said ticket prices will be $10 or $11 for regular adult tickets and $6 for seniors.
