AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. SCPD Highway Patrol Officer Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash with Tractor Trailer

A Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol officer was injured when his vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Lake Ronkonkoma this morning.

Lake Ronkonkoma, NY - April 27th, 2015 - A Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol officer was injured when his vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Lake Ronkonkoma this morning.

Highway Patrol Bureau Officer Arthur Hull was in his vehicle on construction detail and was in the process of diverting traffic off the LIE at exit 60 when a tractor trailer, driven by Harrideo Persaud, struck the rear of his car, approximately 100 feet west of the exit. The police car then struck the guardrail at approximately 4:45 a.m.

Officer Hull was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with neck and back pain.

Motor Carrier Safety Section officers conducted a follow-up safety inspection on the tractor trailer, owned by HS & S Trucking Corporation of Winter Garden, Florida.
