Long Beach, NY - April 23, 2015 - The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors, a group of volunteers who assist wounded, ill and injured soldiers, will hold a fundraiser at Lola’s Kitchen & Wine Bar, 180 West Park Avenue in Long Beach on Monday, May 18. Lola’s will offer an Open Bar, Hors d’oeuvres and Entertainment from 6PM to 9PM, all for $50pp. Proceeds from the event will support the costs of transportation, accommodations and activities for the service members and their families who will visit Long Beach from July 17 through 22, 2015
Over the past six years, the LBWW’s have invited over 150 families to visit Long Beach, with local residents generously offering their time and resources to lend a hand with beach events, dining, boating and other activities. In addition to covering the costs for the Long Beach trip, a portion of funds raised will be used for shipping holiday packages to soldiers overseas, for emergency medical help and other support services.
“Many service families are living with seriously injured loved ones who are undergoing medical treatment and rehabilitative procedures at Walter Reed Military Medical Center,” said LBWW Co-chair Jerry Snell. “Our fundraisers help provide a wonderful summer getaway in Long Beach for those protecting our country and their families.”
Lola’s will offer a 3 hour Open Bar, delicious Hors d’oeuvres and Entertainment for $50pp at the door. (Lola’s will donate their staff, food and drinks for the evening.) Raffle tickets are being sold NOW for a chance to win a custom surfboard and free surfing lessons donated by Skudin Surf. Winning tickets will be chosen at Lola’s on May 18 and winners need not be present to win. To purchase $50 Skudin Surf Raffles call Jerry at 516-375-5966. 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold to win cash and another raffle will be drawn for a 52” Samsung Smart TV and other prizes.
Activities for the families during the July visit will include a 5K Race for the Soldiers and a Welcome Parade, both on Sunday, July 19. Boat rides, fishing, relaxing at the beach, swimming, surfing lessons and a trip to New York City are among events being planned.
Snell said the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors and the citizens of Long Beach are committed to the young men and women who are sacrificing so much to keep our country safe. “We all have a desire to honor those who serve and protect us, and this is our way of letting them know that we appreciate what they do for us.”
The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization welcomes your support and invites all to join them in making this year’s visit even more memorable than the past five years.
