Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

South Floral Park, NY - April 23, 2015 - The Incorporated Village of South Floral Park will host a celebration honoring members of the United States Armed Forces, for its quarter-of-a-century edition. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, starting at 11am in front of the village hall/fire house building at 383 Roquette Avenue in South Floral Park. A celebration of Armed Forces Day is rare and the village would like to keep its long-time tradition of proudly acknowledging those who sacrifice their lives for our freedom.

The event will feature powerful speeches by our village mayor, Honorable Geoffrey N. Prime, and also community leaders & veterans, including Keynote Speaker Scott Castillo, Deputy Director of the Nassau County Veterans Services Agency. Other guests attending are representatives of the American Legion, 1st Marine Corps District, Marine Veterans of Long Island, and state & local elected officials. Local military members, past and present, will also be honored in the ceremony. South Floral Park village officials, South Floral Park Civic Association members, and the South Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department will also be present among all the residents and invited guests.

Further, long-time resident Ms. Sandra Morilus will be returning to sing the National Anthem and the local high school band will be playing a selection of patriotic songs. Additionally, the Invocation and Benediction will be made by local leaders of the United Methodist Church. After the placing of the wreath by Mrs. Constance Blount and completion of the ceremony, this family-friendly event will offer refreshments and raffles in the fire house and an excellent opportunity to meet & greet and network with neighbors, guests, & speakers.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and pay homage to our past, current, and fallen soldiers!
