AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Inwood Man Arrested for North Bellmore Robbery

A man has been arrested for the robbery of a gas station.

North Bellmore, NY - April 30, 2014 - The First Squad reports the arrest of an Inwood man for a Robbery that occurred on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 10:50 a.m. in North Bellmore.
 
According to detectives, the defendant Gregory J. Scott, 59 of 11 Bayview Avenue entered the office of  Xtra Fuel Gas Station located at 2663 Jerusalem Avenue and took an unknown amount of U.S. currency from the behind the counter.  A male employee, 53 confronted Scott and a struggle ensued. A second male employee 77, heard the disturbance and assisted in restraining the defendant until police arrived. First Precinct officers arrived and placed Scott under arrest. The second employee suffered a laceration to his hand but refused medical treatment.
 
Scott  is charged with Robbery 2nd degree and Robbery 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
