Written by Chris Boyle  |  09. May 2022

Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker in conjunction with the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) and North Shore Youth Council (NSYC) will host a NARCAN training class on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022. The class meets the NYS Department of Health requirements and will train participants to recognize an opioid overdose, administer intranasal NARCAN, and know what steps to take until EMS arrives during an emergency situation.

Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about SCPD’s newly launched Behavioral Health Unit and meet with Community Liaison Officers from the 6th Precinct. This class will be held at the North Shore Heritage Center Building from 6:30pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11th.  Please RVSP on or before May 11th by calling 631-854-1600.

“I am grateful for our partnerships with the Suffolk County Police Department and North Shore Youth Council which have made hosting this event possible, and for the work they do to support our community” said Legislator Anker. “Our Suffolk County Police Department’s continued effort in preventing fatal overdoses is crucial to our mission to save lives, while North Shore Youth Council also plays a tremendous role in helping to keep our kids on the right path and steer clear from highly addictive substances. I hope you’ll join us and learn how to be prepared to potentially save a life.”

Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive an emergency resuscitation kit that includes NARCAN. To RSVP, or to receive additional information, please call Legislator Anker’s office at 631-854-1600.
