Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT SUNDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: Nassau, Suffolk, from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Long Island Egress Pros have already made a name for themselves as New York’s premiere manufacturer, supplier, and installer of code compliant egress window systems. The Egress Pros Emergency Escape System is best in class helping to ensure your family and our first responders are safe in the event of an emergency. The team at Egress Pros is not just following IRC Building Code related to Egress they are making lifesaving improvements. The Egress Pros Emergency Escape system is built for, strength, ease, and speed. Their windows are designed to open into the room with single handle quick release action and a slider screen says Randy Goldbaum VP at Egress Pros. Their one piece well systems are designed to be resistant to the harsh outdoor environment while providing a reliable way out ( egress) or way in ( ingress). Community education regarding egress awareness and fire safety continue to be a major part of what Egress Pros does, says Glen Dauman, President of Egress Pros.

Egress Pros' latest innovation takes the form of a “passive” fire protection known as the Fire Extinguisher Ball. Passive fire protection is an effective alternative to active fire protection. A traditional fire extinguisher is great when you are home; but what if you are on vacation or sleeping? This is when passive fire protection is most important. The Fire Extinguisher Ball provides 24 hour, 365 days per year of protection says Egress Pros' Randy Goldbaum.

"Our Fire Extinguisher Balls are easy-to-install and even easier to use and maintain," he said.

The balls come in 4-and-6-inch versions and can be easily mounted just about anywhere by anyone with even a passing degree of proficiency with a screwdriver. The 4-inch balls are ideal for mounting on things such as Christmas trees, which Goldbaum notes pose a significant fire risk, especially after they have been displayed for a while and have begun to dry out.

“The 4-inch ball can be screwed onto the trunk of the tree,” he said. “If the fire starts, it’s going to go up first, but heat does not set these balls off. A flame needs to touch it for at least 3 seconds...at that point it will activate a fuse at the bottom of the ball and it will detonate.”

However, the fire extinguisher balls are not just for Christmas trees; they can be applied nearly anywhere for fire prevention, as the devices come with mounts that allow them to be installed wherever a potential fire hazard may exist.

An addition to the 4-inch model, the larger 6-inch model is made to mounted over boilers, electrical boxes, charging stations, clothing, dryers, car and boat engines, and more; the effective range of the devices when they detonate is approximately 8 feet.

Fire extinguisher balls are also extraordinarily versatile and can combat practically any category of fire that can occur in your home, including type “A” fires that caused by wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and plastic; type “B” fires that involve liquids and fatty oils; and type “C” fires, which are electrical in nature.

The fire extinguisher balls are eco-friendly with a 5-year shelf life; should the ball never be used, at the end of its useful lifespan the contents can be removed and literally used in your garden as fertilizer.

When it comes to protecting the lives of your family and loved ones, you can never be too careful or take too many precautions; Long Island Egress Pros have been leading the charge to keep local residents safe for years, first by offering their incredible egress windows, and now by introducing their highly effective fire extinguisher balls.

“Fire doesn't wait. Whether you're awake or sleeping, home or not, fire doesn't care,” Goldbaum warned. “Fire extinguisher balls are going to give you protection when you're sleeping, beyond your smoke detector. Who knows how much of the area is burning by the time that device wakes you up? Just like egress, this product saves lives.”
