Wantagh Woman Loses Over $185,000 in Elder Scam; Victim Led to Believe Grandson Had Been Arrested, Cops Say

The Seventh Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny that occurred between April 26, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. through May 8, 2023 at 10:06 a.m. in Wantagh.  
 
According to Detectives, a 78-year-old female received a phone call from a subject claiming to be her grandson and needed money for bail. The subject instructed the victim, on multiple occasions to withdraw money from her bank account and send it to various locations. The victim complied each time, transferring approximately $185,325.00 US Currency in total from her account. The victim was informed she was being scammed and contacted Police. 
 
The investigation is ongoing.
