AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Woodmere Rehab Center Worker Arrested for Repeatedly Assaulting 71-Year-Old Resident Suffering from Cognitive Disorder

Fourth Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Queens woman for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 8:50 am in Woodmere.
 
According to detectives, the male victim, 71, suffers from a cognitive disorder and was found to have bruises on 05/03/2024.  The male was under the care of Woodmere Rehab Center, located at 130 Irving Place.  The victim’s legal guardian questioned the facility and was advised the victim fell out of bed multiple times.  The legal guardian placed a camera in the victim’s room. 
 
While watching the camera, a woman was observed striking the victim multiple times with a closed fist in his face and lower body.  The subject shook him multiple times.  The legal guardian responded to the facility and observed bruising on the victim’s face that was not present when she last saw him.  Police were notified and Lisa Napier, 41, of 144-12 225th Street Laurelton, was arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Napier is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Endangering the Welfare of Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person 1st Degree and Endanger Vulnerable Elderly/Incompetent Person 2nd Degree.  She will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at First District Court, Hempstead.
