The Village of Port Jefferson is a popular summer destination spot. So much so that like many downtowns on Long Island, parking is scarce.

So it was big news recently when the village opened its first brand new parking lot in 50 years. Located on Barnum Avenue, the lot was five years in the making, according to a post on Facebook announcing the news. The Barnum Avenue parking lot adds 43 new spots.

The Port Jefferson Village website says that for the time being, the parking spots are free to visitors. The lot also features an electric car charging station, new lighting and security cameras.
