Summer Mode On: Montauk Welcomes Back Visitors for the 2022 Summer Season Including Live Music, Farmer’s Markets, New Restaurants and more

The East End hot spot invites visitors and locals to enjoy fun and free programming all summer long

In Long Island’s chilled out East End, summer takes flight with seasonal programming launched by Visit Montauk, the destination’s chamber of commerce and visitors center,  including the favorite Summer Concerts on the Green, an epic Fourth of July Weekend, Montauk Music Festival and more. 

 

A full list of note-worthy events and festivals can be found below:

 

11th Annual Montauk Music Festival (May 19-22): The Montauk Music Festival returns to 45 stages all over Montauk including two open-are stages at the Montauk Lighthouse. All shows are free and open to the public, with music ranging from rock to flamenco to jazz and more. The four-day festival lineup includes Americana Rock from Alex Cano, NYC Indie band Bonnerville, local Pop/R&B from Kate Usher and the Sturdy Souls just to name a few. The opening party will take place at Westlake Fish House beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

Montauk Artists Association Shows on the Green (June 3-5): The East End's most popular outdoor art exhibition returns to showcase over 65 new and returning artists.

 

Farmer's Markets on the Green (Thursdays from June 9- September 8*): The Montauk Farmers Market returns to The Green this summer with the theme, “Bake It, Catch It, Grow It.” A total of 38 vendors include fan-favorites Open Minded Organics, Wesnofske Farms, Balsam Farms, Pierpont Blossoms, Horman's Pickles, Knot of this World Pretzels along with new additions including The Baking Coaches, Beaches and Beans, Hamptons Barkery, Endless Summer Sauces and Manor Sangria. *Beginning on September 16 the market will be open on Friday, plus Fall Festival weekend October 8 & 9, and running through November 18.

 

Robert J. Aaron Memorial Mighty Montauk Triathlon (June 11): Celebrating the 38th anniversary, the "The Mighty Montauk" is considered the east end season opener. The race guides atheletes throughout the beautiful Montauk hamlet for a 1 mile swim, 20 mile bike and 6.2 miles run. 

 

6th Annual Montauk Mile (June 12): A fun activity to enjoy before the Blessing of the Fleet, runners and walkers are invited to take part in the Montauk Mile. The an annual event is hosted by OMAC (Old Montauk Athletic Club) and raises money for local scholarships. The women's race begins at 10:30 a.m. and men's race begins at 11 a.m. 

 

Blessing of the Fleet (June 12): The Blessing of the Fleet will take place at Town Dock in Montauk Harbor, at 5:00pm. Boats get decorated with colorful flags and line up in the harbor to parade by area clergy for blessings. They range from huge draggers and other commercial boats to Boston Whalers and skiffs, as well as charter boats, sailboats, and private yachts.

 

Montauk Lighthouse Beacon of Hope 5K (June 18): The inaugural Beacon of Hope 5K Walk/Run, honoring James Brady MD, will benefit the Coalition for Woman’s Cancers and Lucia’s Angels. All proceeds will remain on Eastern Long Island. The course is through Camp Hero State Park and finishes atop the majestic Lighthouse property. The entry fee is $30 and registration is online.

 

Monday Night Concerts on the Green (Mondays starting June 27): Bring your blankets and chairs, and even your dinner and enjoy the free music at the Gazebo. From 6:30-8:30 p.m. in June and July and 6-8 p.m. in August, tune in to Montauk’s summer soundtrack including The Realm, Joe Delia, and many more. Concert-goers are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to lounge and enjoy the show.

Stars Over Montauk – 4th of July Fireworks (July 1-4): Stars over Montauk July 4th Fireworks by Grucci at Umbrella Beach, 1/3 mile west of town. 9:00pm. Best viewed from locations in town. 

 

3rd Annual Montauk Film Festival (July 24-31): The annual Montauk Film Festival, an outdoor, nighttime festival with films being shown at various venues throughout Montauk. The film selections aim to inspire an awareness about our local environment through themes of athleticism, humanity, and sustainability. 

While summer days bring visitors to the Long Island hamlet, they also welcome exciting new developments within the community, note-worthy seasonal openings include:  Daunt’s Albatross has been fully renovated and is ready to welcome a new season of guests to enjoy oceanside accommodations, an outdoor saltwater pool and yoga studio. Little Ruby’s Montauk at Ruschmeyer's, an extension of the popular NYC café Ruby’, opens on May 26 to take over the food and drink at Ruschmeyer's boutique hotel. Sommelier Vanessa Price and Chef Jeremy Blutstein of Crow’s Nest (reopening on May 20) and Surf Lodge, launch Mavericks Montauk in mid-June to welcome seasonally focused surf and turf with locally sourced ingredients of a high importance. After a successful inaugural season, La Fin Kitchen & Lounge reopened on May 6 so guests may return for coastal French cuisine and a view overlooking the harbor. 

Known as an east coast surfing destination and for its laid-back vacation vibes, travelers flock to Montauk year-round for its white-sand beaches, Instagram-worthy cliffs and storied attractions.  For those looking for ways to stay active amidst beautiful views this summer, Montauk State Park and Hither Hills State Park provide some of the best scenic biking and hiking trails in New York State. Explore the oldest lighthouse in New York State at the Montauk Point Lighthouse or try horseback riding on the shoreline at Deep Hollow Ranch. Explore Montauk’s thriving harborfront area featuring local shops, fish markets, and outdoor entertainment all summer long with select concerts as part of the ‘Music on the Green” series.
