Second Squad detectives report the arrest of a Woodbury man for an incident that occurred on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:13 pm in Woodbury.
According to detectives, Peter Cannetti, 34, while walking in the parking lot of 7956 Jericho Turnpike, approached a female driver, 18, who was operating her vehicle in the parking lot and accused her of striking him with her car. Cannetti intimidated and coerced her into giving him $100.00 for an alleged injury to his foot. Threatening to contact the police and her parents, Cannetti then obtained the victim’s phone number. Since the incident Cannetti made several attempts to contact the victim and extort additional money from her.
The victim then reported the incident to police and after a subsequent investigation; detectives were able to locate Cannetti on Sunday, May 12, 2019 in his vehicle in the parking lot of 7977 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury. After pulling behind him with their lights activated, Cannetti quickly reversed his car in an attempt to escape and struck the unmarked vehicle causing minor damage. Detectives were then able to place him under arrest without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Cannetti is charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Attempted Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Coercion 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in First District Court, Hempstead on 5/24/2019.
