NCPD: Three Arrested Following Reports of "Shot Spotter" Incident in Freeport

First Squad Detectives report the arrests of three (3) Freeport men for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 2:34 am in Freeport.
 
According to Detectives, Freeport Police Officers were notified of a shot spotter incident in the vicinity of Main Street and Leonard Avenue.  An officer in close proximity when the call was dispatched observed a grey 2008 Honda CRV with dark tinted windows flee the location of the shooting at a high rate of speed.  The officer activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.  There were three (3) subjects seated in the vehicle.
 
A thorough investigation was conducted and the rear passenger, Jean Rodriguez, 24, of 145 Randall Avenue, was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm “ghost” handgun. He was arrested without incident.
 
Dionny Quiroz (driver), 33, of 231 W. Merrick Road, and Jostin Paez Vasquez (front passenger), 21, of 42 Jesse Street, were also arrested without incident. Defendant Dionny Quiroz was transported to a nearby hospital for assessment. 
 
All three (3) defendants are charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.  Defendant Rodriguez has an additional charge of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree.  Defendants Jean Rodriguez and Jostin Paez Vasquez will be arraigned on Monday, May 13, 2024 at First District Court, Hempstead. Defendant Dionny Quiroz will be arraigned when medically practical.
