AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NYS Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Bethpage State Parkway, Driver Entered On-Coming Traffic

The New York State Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 1:34 pm on the Bethpage State Parkway, north of the Southern State Parkway in the Town of Oyster Bay.

Oyster Bay, NY - May 13, 2015 - The New York State Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 1:34 pm on the Bethpage State Parkway, north of the Southern State Parkway in the Town of Oyster Bay.  A Honda was southbound when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane of travel and was struck by a Dodge traveling northbound.  The operator of the Honda, Kelly Georgens, age 36, of Brook Lane in Seaford was pronounced dead at the accident scene.   The driver of the Dodge, Thomas Scaccia, age 42, of Lindenhurst NY, and an 11 year-old passenger in his vehicle were taken to Nassau University Medical Center for non life threatening injuries. 

It is unknown at this time why Ms. Georgens entered on-coming traffic and the accident investigation is continuing.  Any persons who witnessed this collision are encouraged to contact the New York State Police (631) 756-3300.
