Seafood restaurant chain Red Lobster, amid financial struggles in recent years, announced that they will be shuttering dozens of locations nationwide - including one on Long Island - as the chain mulls over potential bankruptcy options.

Currently, 48 locations are slated to be closed and all of their equipment auctioned off, reports say.

Among the locations getting the ax is the one located in Stony Brook in Suffolk County, with the location currently listed as being "temporarily closed." It is currently unknown if "temporarily" will become "permanent" or not.

As per a Bloomberg report, Red Lobster is also considering filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection; if they go through with it, the chain would continue to operate as they restructure their debt and potentially get bac on their feet, financially speaking.

Part of Red Lobster's monetary woes can be attributed to their $20 "endless shrimp" offer introduced in 2023. It was initially meant to be a limited-time promotion, but after it was made a regular part of the menu, it ended up being far more popular with customers than the company was anticipating and reportedly ended up causing the seafood chain millions of dollars.
