The Arson & Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Levittown man and a juvenile male for Criminal Mischief that occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 4:20 P.M. in Levittown.
According to detectives, police were responding to a call for a house fire and arrived on scene at a residence on Blacksmith Road to a working house fire. Police confirmed there were no residents inside. The Levittown and Wantagh Fire Departments responded to scene and extinguished the fire. Arson & Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate. No injuries were reported. An investigation was conducted where it was discovered that a resident of the house, defendant Simarjit Singh, 29, was storing fireworks at the residence and the remnants of the fireworks set off by a juvenile male, 13, caused the fire. The fire caused extensive damage to the residence and a neighbor’s home. Defendant Simarjit Singh and the juvenile male were placed into custody without incident.
For the safety and security of all of residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue with their zero tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks.
Defendant Simarjit Singh is charged with NYS-LAB 453 Storage of Explosives, NYS-LAB 458 Licenses and Certificates, and Unlawfully Selling Fireworks. The juvenile male is charged with Arson 4th Degree and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. Defendant Simarjit Singh was arraigned on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead and the juvenile male was issued an appearance ticket for Nassau County Family Court.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
