Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT SUNDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: Nassau, Suffolk, from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Al Pastor, a new taco spot opened up in Merrick recently. They are in the same spot that used to be Giodano’s Gourmet Fish Market on Merrick Road.

Along with a menu of Mexican food like tacos, burritos and quesadillas they are also serving specialty milkshakes.

On Yelp, Brian J, from Bethpage, gave them five stars.

“Excited this place is open, so we stopped to try a few things on their second day of business,” he wrote. “Menu looks like an authentic taqueria you would find in southern Mexico. Everything was tasty and fresh. The birria taco was outstanding. Definitely will be back to try them again.”

Steven B, from Merrick, wasn’t as impressed.

“I'm giving a mixed review because I see some good things with this place,” he wrote. “There are some positives they do well.”

On Google reviews have all been five stars.

“Incredibly delicious food, so happy this opened in my neighborhood,” wrote Chris N. “Will definitely be coming back a ton. So far we have tried a few of the tacos, the nachos, guac, and shrimp quesidilla. Nothing disappointed in terms of flavor, I couldn't get enough of it all. Best part is the chips are fresh and perfectly seasoned, something a ton of places don't get right.”

Location: 2168 Merrick Road, Merrick.
