The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office recently received a donation from Sesame Workshop of 300 Julia storybooks and 100 Julia plush dolls to distribute in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office’s Project Lifesaver Program. Julia is a Sesame Street character with autism, and the materials will be distributed to the community to help increase autism awareness and inclusiveness.

Project Lifesaver is a unique rapid response locator service that can find missing citizens with cognitive disabilities, such as children with autism and adults with Alzheimer's disease. The program combines technology and specially trained Sheriff’s Deputies to locate individuals who have wandered. Sesame Workshop, the non-profit behind Sesame Street, has supported the Sheriff’s Office’s Project Lifesaver Program through donated materials for participants.
