Three in Custody After Illegal Firearm Discovered During Uniondale Traffic Stop

First Squad Detectives report the arrest of three individuals for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 9:39 PM in Uniondale.
 
According to Detectives, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) Officers observed a 2018 Mercedes Benz G30 traveling southbound on Nassau Road fail to signal when changing lanes. 
 
The Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. The occupants of the vehicle began to make furtive movements causing Officers to request the driver and passengers to exit the vehicle. 
 
Subsequent to the investigation, a loaded Glock 42 handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle. Defendant Daja Cortijo, 23, of 31 Peters Boulevard Central Islip; Lamar Gadsden, 22, of 1 Sentinel Place, Massapequa and Jamal Luciano, 18, of 249 Lake Drive, Copiague were arrested without further incident.
 
 
Defendants Cortijo, Gadsden and Luciano are each charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Gadsden is additionally charged with a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. 
 
They will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
