Babylon, NY - May 17, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Babylon man after he stabbed another man to death on a street in Babylon this afternoon.
During a fight on Locust Avenue, Michael Grusel, 28, stabbed James Moran, 20, at 12:02 p.m. A witness broke up the fight and Moran told the witness that he had been stabbed. The witness alerted off-duty Suffolk County Police Officer Fred Bothe as Grusel was fleeing the scene. Bothe was able to take Grusel into custody, with the assistance of other civilians, and held him until First Precinct officers arrived.
Moran, of 10 Cherry Lane, Bay Shore, was transported by the Babylon Fire Department to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
Homicide Squad detectives charged Grusel, of 3 Lewis Circle, Babylon, with Manslaughter 1st Degree. He will be held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on May 18.
