AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. SCPD: Man Arrested for DWI with Son in Car

Amityville, NY - May 18, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Massapequa man for driving while intoxicated with his son in his vehicle in Amityville early this morning.
 
Amityville Village Police Officer David Driscoll observed a 2009 Toyota pass through a steady red light at Broadway Avenue and Oak Street in Amityville at approximately 4:10 a.m. Officer Driscoll pulled over the vehicle and determined the driver, Jairo Penate-Cruz, was intoxicated. Penate-Cruz’s 15-year-old son was also in the vehicle.
 
Penate-Cruz, 34, was arrested and transported to the First Precinct where he was charged by First Squad detectives with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
Penate-Cruz was held at the First Precinct for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
