Patchogue, NY - May 19th, 2014 - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Edward Webber will preside over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony on May 19 at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.
The recruits, who have completed 29 weeks of academy training, have received more than 1100 hours of instruction on topics including law, emergency medical training, defensive tactics, domestic violence, mental illness, firearms and emergency driving. Nine of the Suffolk County officers have prior law enforcement experience and 26 have military backgrounds.
Along with the 37 Suffolk County Police Department officers, the graduation ceremony will include 17 new officers who will work for the following departments: Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Northport Village Police Department, New York State Attorney General’s Office, Stony Brook University Police, Kings County District Attorney's Office, New York County District Attorney’s Office, City of Long Beach Police, Hempstead Village Police Department and Old Westbury Police Department.
