AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Amityville, NY - May 19, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory attended the Suffolk County Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on May 11 at the Larkfield in East Northport.

The Veterans Appreciation Breakfast was sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator William Spencer and Suffolk County Veterans Services Director Tom Ronayne, and honored U.S. military veteran Legislator Thomas Barraga and Dorine Kenney of Jacob’s Light Foundation. Over 250 veterans from all areas of Suffolk County were in attendance to celebrate the occasion.

“On behalf of the residents of Suffolk County, it was my pleasure to help honor proud Americans like Legislator Barraga and Dorine Kenney,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “Legislator Barraga’s bravery and unselfishness in serving our country and the admirable initiative Dorine Kenney has shown in going above and beyond to support our troops has without a doubt helped form them into the great leaders that they are today. Having the chance to meet and pay tribute to many of the veterans in attendance today was truly an honor and a privilege.”
