On Monday, May 20, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Legislator Dominick Thorne joined local emergency medical services (EMS) providers to sign a bill designating the third full week of May as “EMS Appreciation Week.”

The new county law makes Suffolk County a part of a larger movement to recognize the first responders who respond to crises, treat injuries, and provide lifesaving services.

The bill signing celebrates the 50th anniversary of EMS Appreciation Week on the federal level where President Gerald R. Ford in 1974 designated the week officially to celebrate the importance of EMS professionals.
