NCPD: Two Queens Men in Police Custody in Connection with Hempstead Knifepoint Attack

Anthony Grant, 33, and Michael Laing, 32, are being charged with one count of Assault, one count of Criminal Possession Weapon and one count of Harassment.

The Fifth Squad report the arrest of two Queens men for an Assault that occurred on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 12:45 a.m. in West Hempstead.
 
According to Detectives, Officers received a radio assignment for a stab victim in front of 461 Hempstead Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was determined that defendant Anthony Grant, 33, of 230-45 145th Avenue, Springfield Gardens and defendant Michael Laing, 32, of 144-34 175th Street, Jamacia were involved in a verbal and physical altercation inside of Boom V.I.P Events located at 439 Hempstead Avenue. 
 
The altercation escalated outside and defendant Grant did strike defendant Laing with a sharp object in the neck and torso. As the altercation continued, defendant Laing did strike defendant Grant in the left abdomen and buttocks with the same sharp object. Both defendant Grant and defendant Laing were transported to near hospitals and placed into custody. Both defendants are in stable condition. 
 
Both defendant Grant and defendant Laing are being charged with one count of Assault 2nd degree, one count of Criminal Possession Weapon 4th degree and one count of Harassment 2nd degree. Defendant Laing will be arraigned on Monday, May 20, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead. Defendant Grant will be arraigned when medically practical.
